Now, I have no idea who reads my blog, but if you have been checking in for a while, you may remember that some time ago, like in April 2008, I picked up some material to make Amy a quilt. It took me about 2 months to make the top and sew it to the back material.

dscf7344-copy

It has sat in my sewing bag for the past 13 months. Untouched.

Until last night. I was inspired by my next door neighbour and her Christmas panel she has almost finished.

So I sewed on the binding and then re-sewed it to 1/2″ and not 1/4″. Then I started handstitching the binding and I finished it this morning while Kate and I snuggled under it.

Now I have a sore thumb and I don’t want to see binding for a very long time.

And here is Luke playing ‘Checkers’ on it, which was more like Snakes and Ladders.

I am one happy chicken now it is completed and I can finally move on to the next thing. I have a welome stitchery that I am close to finishing so I might get stuck into that next.

Luke, wearing his hat for the Easter Hat Parade.

I had some hot glue gun lovin’ and now I want to hot glue everything.

It isn’t appropriate for my scrapbook though, I suppose.

Literary Week come dressed as your favourite book character day:

Kate as Alice in Wonderland and Luke as a bear out of his favourite book ‘I can… can you?’kateasalice

Making the costumes drove me crazy, but I got there in the end and I must say, besides the fact that Kate is soooo skinny so her dress was too big, I think they look pretty good. :D

Oh and if you need to make a hood: check out this site: http://www.fleecefarm.com/hood_pattern.htm

And Amy is well again and making up for not eating for a couple of days and devouring everything in sight! Good stuff! :)

I have good intentions…

I always have intentions to update this thing, I just never seem to get around to it! I have stuff to write about from last weekend, let alone the one we just had! Well, here goes…

Kate and Luke went to my grandparents house for 2 nights over the long weekend. This was Luke’s first overnight trip to Grandma and Pops. He had been wanting to go for a while now, since Kate goes there during the school holidays occassionally. They had a nice time. Apparently they were really good and they ate all their dinner. They don’t eat all their dinner at home. Why is that? They helped grandma with some baking and drew lots of pictures. They went for drives. They just generally had a nice time.

I turned Amy’s car seat around the other day. She seems to like the forward facing drive. It is also much easier to get her in and out! Here is Amy on one of her last rearward facing drives.

When I was pregnant with Amy, a lady at work, Pauline, gave me a gift. It was a beautiful layette set that her mother knitted. She also gave me another set that one of her friends knitted also. They are so beautiful. Too beautiful to use! But then I wanted to put a nice warm jacket on Amy, so I pulled it out. It fitted perfectly. I need to have this photo printed off so I can give it to Pauline.

And this weeks challenge for the DT comp over at Scraploot required us to use PINK, BLUE, ORANGE, WHITE and BLACK. Interesting colour combo, huh? Yeah, I thought so too. SO, I took the easy option. One main colour and use the others as highlights. This is what I came up with:

Onto other crafty stuff, I have sandwiched Amy’s quilt and I have started quilting the top! Wait a sec, I will just go and get a pic… the yellow has turned out a little orange in this pic, but it is a bright yellow. It will have a colourful bind aswell. It has pink flannelette as the backing material. It is still going to take me ages to finish it because of the binding. I will get there though, and I can’t wait to have it finished!

I have heaps of other things I want to say but I will leave it there for today. Thanks for stopping by!!! :D

And then there were three:

Sleeping sacks for Amy!

And thats enough for this winter, I think. They were really easy to make. I just cut out the general shape (no pattern used), pillowcased the outside and lining together and then turned it out then sewed up the seams (so they turned out like french seams) and did a bit of top-stitching. It really was quite simple.

And some, mmmm, afternoon baking. Banana muffins. I find that the bananas I buy always go over ripe so quickly! Here is the recipe:

  • 3 bananas

  • 2 1/2 cups self raising flour

  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar

  • 1 cup of mik

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tablespoons of margarine/butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Combine milk, egg, butter, vanilla and bananas and blend together. Place flour and sugar into milk mix. Mix well. Poor into greased muffin tray. Bake for 20 mins in fan forced 180′C oven. Makes 12 large muffins. So yum!

And I had one of these moments when I went to Woolworths.

That’s right. We have progressed. How do I feel? A little sad actually. I have loved having a baby in the house. Especially one that sleeps so well! LOL! ;)

And here is the big girl herself. 6 months. Half a year. Already!

Not a great 6 months pic, I will try and get another one, but she has been so grumpy lately! At least she sleeps well, I guess.

Thanks for stopping by! :D

To say I am going crazy these school holidays is an understatement! I had so much stuff planned to do, but of course, all of it was outdoor stuff! Grrr! I had planned trips to Sydney Olympic Park to do a Clue Trail, Bicentennial Park to go on a Spider Spinout tour, trips to the park to play, bikeriding trips, just general blow some steam off and have some fun outdoors stuff. So of course it has rained everyday and the kids have had colds. These school holidays have not been totally enjoyable. Right now I am breathing a sigh of relief as Amy is asleep. She is such a happy content baby, but right now, whenever she is awake, she is crying! The poor darling has a cold too. Oh well. I guess it leaves stuff for us to do next school holidays.

Here is something I am loving at the moment though. Kate and Luke will push Amy to wherever they are playing so she can be part of the action too. It is so cute when you look down the hall and see this.

And here is just a cute photo of Amy I took of her in her walker.

And while I don’t like to think about it, Amy is getting bigger and older. She is almost 6 months old. Here is a photo of her trying out the bath seat for the first time. The verdict: well, she liked the fact that she could splash her hands in the water but wasn’t too happy that she couldn’t really get in there with a good kick around. But overall, I think it was two thumbs up.

And one last photo from monday. I spent a great day with two highly talented, but special friends, Lusi and Mel. These two girls are so super talented and for those who dont recognise Mel, she is a designer for Stamp-It and released her first paper line, Flourish, last year. You would probably know of her stuff but probably don’t know the sweet, not very huggable (LOL – private joke from KiwiScraps 07) person behind the designs. I had a fantastic day and now I am inspired to get back into dabbling in scrapping again, maybe even trying out some digi stuff. ;) Oh, yeah, and that’s Amy on my lap. See how big she is?

Well, I have some other news, we bought a new TV. Steve rang me up and we discussed it. Our discussions are always the same when it comes to purchasing things.

Steve: I was at Bing Lee today and they have this TV on special.

Beth: Oh ok, did you want to get it?

Steve: Can we?

Beth: (mentally doing sums in head and maybe checking bank balance) Yeah, we should be good.

And he comes home with a TV. Easy.

Well, I better go, I have some housework to do and maybe a bit of crafting followed by cooking dinner, then going to bed at 5pmish to wake up at 9pm to get ready to go to work. All in a days work….. *rolls eyes*

And I shall depart with a quote I found today that I have always lived by:

Every job is a self-portrait of the person who does it.  Autograph your work with excellence.  ~Author Unknown

Crafting Goodness

I posted a while ago that I joined a pretty cool site, Ravelry. It is for yarn crafters. I love looking at the things people make, but one thing that I have to realise is that I am too impatient for yarn crafts. I want results. Now. That being said, I do have 3 yarn projects on the go, a cardigan for Amy, a shrug for me and a scarf for Kate for school.

So I came across this really cool little monkey and since the pattern was free, I thought I would give it a go. A few things, no, he doesn’t have a tail, I have made it but I want to put a pipe cleaner into it so it will be bendable (I had already sewn the arms and legs on when this was suggested to me.) and I would have used a smaller hook. I used a 4mm but since reading up on amigurumi you actually use a smaller hook, so I would use a 3mm hook next time. Although I cannot find my 3mm hook and Spotlight is out of them, what the? I know. I said that too.

I have been busy sewing also. I have made Amy 2 sleeping bags and I bought some more material yesterday to make her another one. Since Amy started sleeping in these, she has been sleeping so well and not waking up! Bliss! (Not that I am home of a night to benefit from it! LOL!)

With the left over flannelette I am going to make some bibs as presents. I was planning on starting on those today.

Yesterday I also bought some bright funky fabric to make a start on a quilted blanket for Amy. I am really excited and looking forward to starting this! I have a picture in my minds eye about what I want it to look like, but I guess with most creations, it usually never turns out how you envisaged it in the first place! Keep your eyes peeled for WIP pics!

The kids and I made some playdoh aswell. They really enjoyed helping with the colouring. I found an easy peasy recipe at Kinder Planet. It also has links to other things to make. We are also going to make the clay and do a paper mache and I was thinking that the Melted Crayon Peels sounded like fun too. I was also thinking that I would like to make a Mel Goodsell cubby house these holidays also, but I am not sure if I will have the time. I love Mel’s stuff, pure eye-candy!

Well, thats about all the crafty goodness I have at the moment, oh except I have a blog I found and she has the nicest stuff! Her colour schemes are just gorgeous! Happy crafting! :D

Leo Buscaglia : The majority of us lead quiet, unheralded lives as we pass through this world. There will most likely be no ticker-tape parades for us, no monuments created in our honor. But that does not lessen our possible impact, for there are scores of people waiting for someone just like us to come along; people who will appreciate our compassion, our unique talents. Someone who will live a happier life merely because we took the time to share what we had to give. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have a potential to turn a life around. It’s overwhelming to consider the continuous opportunities there are to make our love felt.

I read this on Lusi’s blog last week and felt moved by it. It is so true.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that.

Now I am off to make some playdoh for the kids. I found a recipe at Kinder Planet, along with a bunch of other stuff to make these school holidays. While the kids are playing, I am going to get some housework done, although I would prefer to be doing something crafty myself! :)

Nothing much been happening here of late. Amy smiled yesterday for the first time, like a proper smile. She is so cute. Hopefully I can get her to smile for the camera. ;)

I joined an awesome site – http://www.ravelry.com/ - but it does have quite a long waiting list, well it did when I initially put my name down. I had forgotten all about it until I got the email to say my account had been activated. It is for yarn crafters, knitting and crocheting etc. Some great stuff to make on the site. Really worth checking out!

Luke has been playing on the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse site. It links to other sites and one that I have seen Luke go to is Handy Manny. Well, he was out with Steve mucking around with the floor of the boat and here is Luke sitting there with his pencil behind his ear. I guess Bob the Builder is a thing of the past and is now replaced by Handy Manny.

And a photo of my other gorgeous girl, Kate, blowing bubbles. She likes to do her own hair now and doesnt quite get the headband thing. Oh well, she still looks cute enough.

Thats about is from me today. Nothing much really has been happening but I just wanted to get it down on paper when Amy first smiled. Take care and have a wonderful day! :)

39+5 weeks and still no baby sightings! Oh well. It will come when it is ready, or should I say, when I am least ready for it! LOL! I even took some castor oil yesterday and nothing. Friday is a full moon, so maybe it will happen then? Pffft! All I know is, it will happen when it is ready and I just have to be patient!!

Luke and I went to the library last week and I picked up this gorgeous book.

I don’t crochet, or should I say, I didn’t crochet. Until monday. I had to go to spotlight to grab some material as I am making a tree skirt in my sewing class of a friday, so while I was there I decided to grab a crochet hook and a ball of wool to see what all the fuss is about. I found a few online tutorials because while the book was good, I just wasn’t quite getting the ‘in the round’ stitch. So, I found this site which explained it all so clearly! So, if you are having trouble starting a round stitch, check out the link!

So anyway, I made these on tuesday and decided to use them on a layout.

dscf5334.jpg

So, crocheting isn’t all that hard afterall! I would love to show you the rest of the layout, but you will have to wait until saturday when the next challenge goes up on the Journal It blog! And my next project I want to do is the round cushion on the front of the book, I just have to find the parcel string to do it though. I think I will need to make a trip to Bunnings for that though.

Anyway, I best be going, I need to get started on the kids Halloween outfits. Luke is going to be a pirate, he was a pirate last year too, and Kate is going to be Tinkerbell.

Thanks for stopping by and take care!!! :D
